No Cow For Now..Meeting Highland Cows in WV

This weekend we learned the important lesson of educating ourselves before we commit to buying any animal. We, mainly I, have been wanting a miniature highland cow for years. After trying to find a legitimate breeder for months we finally found one that we trusted, Stony Spring Farm, in Berkeley Springs, WV. Thankfully they know what they are doing and advised us to come visit before we reserved a calf. So we rented a cabin in the beautiful Cacapon State Park and went to their farm. As we got out of our truck I immediately was shocked at how much bigger the miniature highland cows are in person verses online. They are absolutely ADORABLE and are shorter then usual cows however they are still a cow and are 500lbs or more.

We had made a list of questions prior to going to the breeders and they took their time to answer all of our questions and also educate us on the breed. After we left my husband and I took our time and discussed what we learned and both came to the conclusion that we A. Did not have enough acreage for a cow and B. were not ready to commit to an animal that size…even though they are sooooo cute! So, lesson learned..EDUCATE YOURSELF! no cow for now for us but we do have the breeders information for anyone who is ready for one!
