Milking goats in the PA Wilds
Sooo let’s talk about milking. ???????? This milking season just has not gone as planned. I am a stay at home mama of 3 kids ages 3,5 and 7. And to be honest with their current ages and personalities I cannot leave them unsupervised while I am attached to a teat milking even if they are outside with me ????soo my Plan A- milk both of my milking goats all season- FAILED, my plan B- milk one of my milking goats 2x a day FAILED… so onto plan C. Milk one of our milking goats during my kids “rest time” in the middle of the day when I can trust they’ll be okay while I’m milking ???? -Is it hurting our milking goat Annabelle Ray by milking her only once a day? No -Is it reducing the overall milk she produces and that I can save for soap? Yes -did I miss out on all of Dollys milk this year? Yes - Is it what I can do for now as a homesteader/mom of 3? Yes We are all just doing what we can to make it work ???? I’m thankful for the milk I do get from Annabelle Ray and am happy to be able to keep making homemade goat milk soap which our family’s skin appreciates.
